We are close to our families though we live in different states. Sean's family lives in Iowa and Atlanta. We celebrate every Thanksgiving in Atlanta, where one sister hosts the big dinner and football-watching marathon. Every other year, we have a weeklong family reunion, renting a large house together, usually by the ocean. We do a lot of chatting, eating, boating and swimming. Lena's Dad, brother and family live in San Antonio, Texas. They visit us a few times a year with our two young nephews.

We believe in taking care of family. Lena's parents have lived with us temporarily due to health issues. We also have family in the Philippines. We helped put one relative through medical school there, as we also believe in the importance of education.

We have wonderful friends in the Bay Area, Southern California and the Midwest, who are all very supportive of our adoption plans. Many have children that will be excited to have a new playmate, and two friends have recently adopted girls from China and Guatemala.
